About You
From the outset, it became increasingly apparent that the Workshop was very well structured, allowing a fluidity and natural progression between the various events that were put on for us. Events such as the departmental careers fair to the Alternative Dispute Resolution workshop were of particular importance for me as they showcased the diverse areas of practice of the Firm. Through talking to people from Graduate Recruitment, Trainees and Partners themselves, it gave me a first-hand experience of the Firm which could certainly not be acquired from merely reading the website.
Over the course of the two days I spent with the Firm as part of the First Year Workshop, I quickly appreciate the warm and welcoming attitude of all the employees at the Firm, making me immediately feel valued in the unfamiliar surroundings I found myself in. Indeed, I am very appreciative of the fact that the Partners, Trainees and Graduate Recruitment all gave up their time to give us a snapshot into their areas of expertise in spite of their own work commitments.
The support received from Partners, Trainees and Graduate Recruitment, be it questions or advice, was brilliant and allowed me to instantly feel at ease as soon as I started the Workshop.
The presentation on applications and interviews was extremely informative and will be sure to help me in my prospective applications for Vacation Schemes and Training Contracts in the future. Further, the experience gained from shadowing the solicitor in the Finance Department alongside the knowledge gained from the whole Workshop allowed me to ascertain that a career in Commercial Law is certainly what I aim to do in the future.
The Company
There was a natural fluidity to the events put on by the Firm over the two days, reflecting how well structured the whole Workshop was. This would not have been achieved were it not for the excellent work of the Graduate Recruitment staff who controlled and organised the whole Workshop fantastically, ensuring that the whole event ran seamlessly.
The atmosphere itself was extremely warm and welcoming from all employees who I had the pleasure of meeting over the two days.
The Corporate and ADR Workshops gave us the perfect opportunity to showcase and develop our teamwork and leadership skills in negotiating and solving/compromising on the problem that we were presented with.
Both the session on application and interviews and our overall experience over the two days allowed us to gauge at least to some extent what it would be like working at the firm, through a mixture of formulating our own views based on the information we were given or through socialising with the employees of the Firm themselves.
The Workshop allowed me to ascertain the warm and friendly atmosphere which is ever-present at the Firm, but did not really allude to the company culture.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed my travelling expenses as at the time I was living in London in Halls.
There were many valuable opportunities to network and socialise with employees of the Firm over the Firm over the two days, ensuring that we had ample opportunity to find out more about the Firm and the employees themselves and ask pertinent questions relating to their line of work and questions that we may have about ourselves.
Pre-paid events such as the trip up the Shard and to the Perkin Reveller were absolutely amazing and not only provided the perfect opportunity to converse and socialise with employees and our fellow Workshop attendees, but also provided a memorable and fantastic experience with their respective views over London and the scenic setting by the Tower of London (for the Perkin Reveller) along with the excellent food!
Through discussion with the Trainees, Partners and Graduate Recruitment
The Workshop was most certainly a fantastic and worthwhile experience and I would recommend to this scheme to all, Lawyers or Non-Lawyers, who have an interest in joining this dynamic and world-leading Firm.
