The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 12 month placement with Agustawestland. I felt that I was given an appropriate amount of work that would actaully be valued by the company. There was always someone who I felt comfortable to go to if I needed help with anything.
During my placement, I never felt as though I was 'just the undergraduate'. I always felt like part of the team and was involved in weekly team meetings.
I never felt like I didn't have any support or guidance from my managers/supervisors. However, like with any business sometime management can be very busy and you feel like you don't want to distrub them for advice. This never caused a problem as I would use my initiative to solve the query.
At certain points in the month I was busier than others, due to deadlines at the beginning on the month. However, I felt that the workload put on me was manageable, and I rarely found myself with nothing to do.
I felt that I was given a lot of responsbility during my placement, to the point where I became point of contact for a lot of valued projects. Sometime the pressure of the responsibilities gets on top of you, but my manager was always there to offer help when this became too much.
I feel a lot more confident to go back to university and be able to stay focused. During this placement I have picked up valuable IT skills, general communication and time management skills.
The Company
At times there was a lot of pressure on my office to deliver outcomes, however this never dampened the mood and I always felt happy to be a part of my office.
Overall, the placement was very well set up. Before you start you have the opportunity to attend a site visit and meet other undergraduates who will be in the same year as you.
During my 12 months I went on one 2 day training course which I found very interesting. I was on Presenting a Professional Positive Image. I would have liked to attend more of these types of training days.

I understand that the company do like to take on students who have gone on the undergraduate scheme as graduates, so the prospects of future employment with the company are favourable.
The Culture
Yes, there were 10 undergraduate placement students on the program and we all got along really well. There is a committee for graduate, undergraduate and apprentices to do activities and events.
The area really isn't very good for socialising. It is quite far out from any 'big cities' ie, Bristol and Exeter, however there are nice restuarants and a good gym.
The area isn't good for clubbing nightlight, but in terms of bars and pubs there is a lot of choice! A good selection of restuarants also.
There are lots of committes and day trip that you can join with work that are conducted outside of work. The gym is also a good place to meet new people andthe membership is very reasonable.
