    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My Professional Development Manager did everything he could to make sure I got the most out of my placement.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt truly valued as an equal by my colleagues, as I was doing work on the same level that they were and I got to know them well too.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were very involved with my placement and I felt very visible to them. Any problems that I had were dealt with quickly and I received a good amount of guidance from my manager - enough so that I didn't feel lost, but not too much so I still felt like I was independent.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy some days but the work was always exciting and stimulating so I really enjoyed it! Even though I was busy it wasn't very stressful as I was in a secure environment with my colleagues to support me through it.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was trusted with access to restricted systems and a key to the device labs.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed massively over my year with IBM. Not only with technical skills picked up on the job, but also the social skills and independence. I feel like working at IBM for a year has given me a very good head start in my degree because I know how it works in industry.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was lively and a nice place to be - I was situated on London's South Bank with views over the Thames to Big Ben and the London Eye.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was clear that a lot of planning had gone into the placement scheme and I was able to get to work straight away after only one week's induction.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given lots of 1:1 time with technical leads in the teams I worked in - which helped massively with my development as I could discuss any technical problems I had with them and they could pass on knowledge to me.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered holiday work, as well as a high chance of being re-employed as a graduate.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were a close group and everybody got along well. There were lots of events for the placement students so we could get together and socialise.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is always going to be fairly expensive but I didn't feel like I was struggling financially and I have come out of the placement year with lots of money saved.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I was working right in the heart of London, which means the Nightlife is great.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I did lots of things outside of work voluntarily for IBM to further extend my skills.

    4/5
