The Role
Working in an FMCG company naturally lends itself towards working in a stressful and hectic environment, with many challenging obstacles for you to over come. But its because of these that I have been able to grow & learn far beyond what I would've ever thought going into this placement initially, enabling me to thoroughly enjoy my 12 months here with an array of experiences to draw from in the future.
L'Oreal is a company that unlike many I have heard of, is dependent upon the work of their interns & grads to help support the key marketing teams to deliver big projects. The feedback and attitude towards myself within my role has been highly respectful of my position, and you always feel like you are making an active contribution to the brand you work for.
Throughout the 12 months I have spent at L'Oreal, you are given weekly catch-ups and updates with your manager, with monthly updates too with senior members of staff. They also have a strong process set up for mid-year & end of year reviews for you to reflect on your objectives and how you are progressing towards achieving them.
Working in FMCG requires a heavy workload, with there always being something that needs to get done. As I've mentioned before, Interns are highly relied upon in L'Oreal and that reflects in the workload. There is no making tea & photocopying time here.
I was given an extensive amount of responsibility ranging from creating & briefing in major projects to being trusted with dealing with important issues within these projects.
I thoroughly believe that I have learnt more working 12 months for L'Oreal than I have over the past 2 years of my degree. This is because you have to put theory in to practice and you get a far more realistic view of how processes, systems & teams work.
The Company
The atmosphere was lively, everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Very well set-up, from before starting right through to my final week.
I was able to experience training days in a few areas, which helped broaden my skills.

L'Oreal have a very structured career plan for interns & grads, and they encourage all interns to apply for the Grad scheme once they finish there placement.
The Culture
L'Oreal had around 80-90 interns, which lead to a very strong social community between the placement students.
London is expensive!
There are a few bars/pubs around the Hammersmith office, with most opting to head to the local pub on a Friday.
