About You
Although the week has been very tiring it has been enjoyable. A combination of interesting work, engaging workshops and a friendly firm have made for an enjoyable week.
The work we were given came in a steady stream and everyone seemed grateful for the work you completed.
Walker Morris operate with an open door policy. My supervisor/trainee buddy were always able to support me when I needed help with various research tasks or office jobs such as scanning.
The research skills you gain are invaluable. By speaking to solicitors I have developed new approaches to research which I had never contemplated before. In addition, the workshops you undertake test your communication and team work skills thereby allowing you to improve upon them. This isn't an opportunity that is always present during your studies.
The Company
You were provided with a timetable on Day 1 and this was followed precisely. I always knew what the day ahead had in store for me.
There is a really friendly atmosphere at Walker Morris. On my second day in the office I was asked to play Cricket for them against a team of clients. This is a perfect example of the the firm getting vacation schemers involved during the week and is a good indication of their inclusive atmosphere.
The workshops were well thought out and the department gave you work that challenged you academically. In this regard, the firm were clearly investing in and enhancing yourn personal development.
I had access to employees of all seniority and I was able to discuss the legal profession with them all. When coupled with the time I spent working within the department I was able to get a sound understanding of life within Walker Morris.
The social events (particularly the cricket) helped emphasise that Walker Morris have a fun and inclusive culture. However, the top end work undertaken and the hard working employees within the office also helped me relaise that their culture is also characterised by a desire to work hard and act profesionally.
Everything Else
The wage was competitive for a Placement in Leeds.
Social Events and Trainee Talks provided plenty of opportunity to network with all levels of employee.
They ranged from sports to nights out and this diversity was something I did not expect.
Yes, my supervisor infomed me of the opportunities to get involved with sports teams and charitable schems.
If my friend was fairly certain that law is the right career for them then I would definitely recommend for them to participate on this scheme.
