The Role
I would definitely consider coming back here in the future.
I had difficulty with this as adjusting to being in a male working environment was never going to be easy. I think the difficulties I have faced and overcome will provide me with the right attitude and confidence going forward in my career.
I don't feel that I have achieved as much as I potentially could have here. But I would put part of this down to a change over of management within the company. This created a fairly hectic time for all employees.
It's been challenging and tiring at times. But these times help you to appreciate the importance of time and people management. This is something that will be invaluable to me at University.
I was very impressed with the amount of responsibilty I was given from early on in my placement. This has given me great confidence and competence at the job and I would certainly be ready to take on more if I returned!
The Company
It was relaxed in the office at times but always with work in mind. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting my colleagues and feel that they will be friends outside of work when I leave.
Organisation was very lacking and the manager of the department picked up a lot of the slack. The university tutor arrangements were poor (the Universities fault) and notice on presentations about the placement to staff were not organised in advance or did not detail to us what they required.
I was treated like a full time employee that would be staying with the company where possible.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have been asked if I would like to extend my placement and I may be returning next summer to do just that!
The Culture
I played badminton every tuesday for free with colleagues and squash most thursday too. I have made some life long friends at the company and will certainly be visiting.
The difference between London prices and the rest of the UK became apparent when moving from Newcastle to 'down South'. But this wouldn't be considered a negative as I was paid well enough to enjoy my time here as well as live - albeit studentlike at times.
I don't have much of an opinion on this as I have an allergic reaction to alcohol. Most of my socialising was weekends or evening activities. These have been awesome and I will continue what I can back at Uni.
Yuo make your own opportunities outside of work but there was a 4x4 driving day held at Millbrook that I was allowed to attend. This was amazing! hope I get invited back next year. Most of the clubs I joined were because I wanted to join them. I don't believe this is something the work placement should be massively involved in. I learned German at night school this year because UI wanted to.
