    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work that I was given was incredibly varied and exciting, and I was given a wide range of clients to work with - so I was never bored. Come home time, I was often told that I could go home rather than awkwardly having to ask, so there were no crazy hours.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility with my work and I really felt like I was playing a key part in the teams that I was working with. Whenever I submitted work back to managers they all seemed delighted by what I'd done - and more importantly what I'd added to it.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The people that I was working with always had time to help me if I had questions, and I was often prompted to work out the answer by myself (with a little guidance) which really helped me learn.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Whenever I had finished a particular job, there was always work to do! However, I rarely had to stay too late, and I was often given a good lunch break.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was being given similar tasks to graduates who had worked at KPMG for 8 months or so, so I felt like I had a lot of responsibility. All work that I did was checked before submission (as is regularly done in Audit for all pieces of work), so there wasn't really a problem if I did something wrong.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills for life really sums this up. Being introduced to many different people at all sorts of levels and remaining confident in approaching people with questions was a really key part of the internship. I also picked up many IT skills, as most jobs that I was asked to do could be made far more efficient with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a great balance in all offices between work and leisure. There would be periods of time where everyone was silent and working, and then a quick 5 minute break where everyone was having a laugh together.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I worked with six different clients over the course of the internship, and I never felt like I was rushed with a particular client. Offices were always expecting me, and there was always a role for me to fulfill.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were two days of training at the beginning of the internship where all interns did group exercises and were given presentations. The main investment the company made into me was the support of every member of each office that I worked in.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been offered a job with KPMG, and I have offers from other firms in the Big 4, but after this brilliant experience, I definitely want to work with KPMG.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Every Friday someone in the group would organise drinks somewhere near the office. Unfortunately I couldn't make a few of the Friday's and no one seemed up for doing anything during the week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Unfortunately being in London is expensive - but it is definitely worth it as the experience is better, and so is the salary!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It's London! Apart from the prices the nightlife is brilliant.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We did a Corporate Social Responsibility day where we helped with the maintenance of Clapham Common for the Olympic Torch being run through it. KPMG allows all staff members one paid day of CSR work every two months.
