    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thought the people were great as they were supportive and really helped to make the internship as valuable for me as possible. The job was interesting with the opportunity to learn so much.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were exceptionally welcoming and supportive during my time at EY. I felt like they really appreciated the work that I did. Even though I lacked the professional qualifications they had, I believed that they appreciated my assistance in tasks that needed completing.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was able to receive feedback after each block of work that I completed which was very valuable for my professional development. I also had several meetings with a personal counsellor who oversaw my progress during the internship and with whom I was able to have detailed discussions about my experiences.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was constantly working during my assigned hours with a whole range of different and stimulating tasks.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I performed a significant amount of work at the client's site that first and second years would do which really helped me to feel that I was contributing to the overall success of the team's project.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The improvement to my IT skills through practice was the most valuable element in this regard, but I did not think the IT training at the start of the internship was very good.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was quiet but not boring. People had very good interpersonal skills, so there were often conversations around the place although they were not so distracting that you couldn't work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A better introduction to our manager at this stage would have been appreciated, but it was really a minor issue as soon I had work to do! There were times when I was unassigned, but found that I was often able to find more work to do very quickly just by speaking to those sitting around me in the office.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Huge credit to EY, they put a lot into all of us as interns and it was greatly appreciated.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I received a job offer after the internship for when I graduate. The opportunity to do the professional accountancy qualification at such a good firm is a huge draw to return to work there in a couple of years.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • A great social scene. All of the interns were very friendly and I plan to stay in touch with them for a long time to come! We had some really good events put on by EY.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The drinks were expensive in and around the office as was to be expected for London, as was food at lunch, but it was mostly dominated by chains so the prices weren't way beyond what I had planned.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We didn't use the nightlife in the area where we worked, but were easily able to get to other areas of the city where more was going on.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a number of options advertised in the office like language classes, as well as many sports societies, but I did not feel I had time within the 6 weeks to get involved.

    3/5
