The Role
I've rally enjoyed my placement, it has really cemented that i want to work in engineering and product development full time.
I've been really accepted here and been given lots of opputunities as an employee. I've very quickly felt like a valued member of the team rather than "the student".
Any help I could have wanted was given without question, couldn't possible have asked for more!
Coming from university and formula student, I was used to being horrendously busy and not stopping for breath. The pace of industry is a lot slower but it was a very good balance, i've not been rushed and have been given a good time scale to finish projects i've been given.
I have been given a lot of resposibility during my placement, I have been given my own personal projects which I am 99% responsible for and other large international projects which I contributed to
There are many many different skills I have learnt during my time on placement but one of the main thinngs I would stress is how important it is to get some real insustrial experience under your belt. It gives a lot more focus to what you are doing your degree for and why.
The Company
Very good and interactive atmosphere with a lot of friendly people, is an office though so no Wacky Races style shenanigans
I was the most recent of a few interns so the structure was well defined before I got here.
The company clearly see you as an investment and something to retain rather than something to drop the boring extra work on.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I have been offered a job to come back to when my degree is finished
The Culture
Social activites are very important to most of the people here and are very much encouraged
The Lake District is known to be very expensive but cannot complain, not as bad as other places in the country, more dependant on what you are interested in
Not great if you don't like pubs
Plenty, I am a very keen cyclist so i couldn't have had more to do. The location lends itself much more to outdoors-y people and if that's your thing (like mine) you will never run out of things to do!
