About You
This was the most enjoyable and rewarding insight to a law firm I have experienced. Fantastic.
I was made to feel valued by the firm because everyone, including both the managing partner and head of department introduced themselves and made sure I was enjoying my time.
I was assigned an experienced lawyer as a supervisor and a trainee buddy. This meant I received a good level of support and feedback which I used to improve my performance moving forward.
The experience confirmed commercial law was definitely for me. The feedback has improved and sharpened my skills like drafting which I will put into my studies going forward.
The Company
I received a timetable at the start of the placement laying out exactly what I had to do each day, like when and where assessments and socials were happening which meant I could concentrate on enjoying the experience.
While the department was busy with people working late on completions everyone made time for me for a chat and a laugh. They also took the time to explain the transactions so I could feel part of the buzz of the department. I could not have asked for more.
My supervisor and trainee buddy provided both positive feedback and areas for improvement so I developed during my placement.
I was given actual trainee tasks to complete and the lawyers spent time explaining the deals they were working on and what would be expected of me if I was to be offered a job there. They didn't pull their punches about the negative aspects of their jobs but this was great because I was able to make a fully informed decision that this was definitely the career for me.
I had plenty of opportunities to talk to partners, lawyers and trainees from the firm and really gained a feel of the open and friendly culture at the firm.
Everything Else
I had plenty of varied work to get stuck into.
There were three socials during the week, two unofficial and one official so there were loads of opportunities to ask questions over a drink.
The quiz was too hard! But the socials were great in terms of meeting as many people as possible and getting a real feel of the firm.
Everyone I spoke to at the firm was involved in some sport or charity work through the firm, which was great.
Overall the experience stood apart from all the other law firm placements I have done.
