The Role
I enjoyed my placement a lot, I found the Guildford office to be a friendly and relaxed atmosphere depsite the fact everyone is very busy. The work itself was straight forward which is good considering we only had one month with the company however, I would of benefitted from having some more challenging tasks.
Everyone was very appreciative of my help and kept me busy whilst ensuring I was not inundated with too many tasks at one time.
Everyone was extremely helpful and quick to help whenever I needed it.
I found the balance of work to be good however, since I had done a year long placement prior to being with Savills I felt I was capable of being put under more pressure in terms of work load.
I was given the amount of responsibility expected for a summer intern
skills such as report writing, communication, time management, relationship building skills are transferable and will be with me for life
The Company
The atmosphere was relaxed with a lot of chatting and fun however, there were also periods of quiet when things needed to get done. It is a perfect balance and a good atmosphere for a young intern to go into.
The placement did not seem to have been prepared but I do not believe it needed to be. Work was sent through as and when it needed to be done and any site visits were arranged on the day.
As the internship is paid this shows that the company values their interns. I was also invited to events throughout the month which aided my development.
Company Parties/Events
I have heard that 50% of the people who join the Savills grad scheme had experience with Savills prior to joining therefore I believe this position will help set me apart from other applicants.
The Culture
I joined at a good time as many events happen in June before people go away for annual leave. I was invited to the summer BBQ as several meetings which were also very sociable.
I live in the area and I am used to it, however, Guildford, like most of the South East is expensive when compared to other areas of the UK.
Guildford has a decent level of nightlife however, being close to London there is a lot on hand should you get bored.
