The Role
Was quite good. Quite challenging, but there was a slightly excessive amount of red tape to cut through on occasion.
Obviously the first couple of weeks were awkward, but people were soon asking for my help and input on things.
There were a lot of people I was told I could talk to. Everyone is pretty busy, but they'll generally try to make time for you if you ask.
I was in an agile team so generally was a little lacking in work towards the end of a sprint, but not too bad a balance overall.
I was one of 4 developers and treated just as any of the others, so any bugs in my code would be my responsibility to fix.
The on the job skills I developed I think will be very useful, but the training was generally quite hit and miss.
The Company
My team was generally quite chatty and jokey.
Generally well set up, though some people interning at the same time as me didn't have too much to do because their teams weren't really prepared for an intern.
I could ask to do any training I thought looked interesting. My manager even put me on a half day test driven development training course after he noticed I didn't do unit tests very well.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Pretty appealing. Definitely not a bad place to work.
The Culture
We were terrible at going out for group drinks, but no one ate lunch alone or anything.
I lived out in the suburbs, so not that high. There are a lot of bars near the office to choose from if that's your kinda thing.
Its the city centre, so pretty good. The main clubbing area isn't exactly where the office is, but is only about a 20 minute walk.
Company arranged opportunities? There were a few get together events, like a barbeque, but there weren't that many 'activities'.
