The Role
Loved the working environment. Tasks were completely relevent to my university course and helped me develop some useful technicial skills as well as personality traits.
Felt like part of the team. Made some good friends around the business and on the internship scheme. Built a good working relationship with many indiviudals. Also had many social events outside of work e.g work football. So definitely felt confortable around everyone.
Good level of support from my manager and colleagues around me. Always felt like I could ask queations.
Built up a long list of daily, weekly, monthly resposbilties and accountabilties. Also knew areas that I could help out in if I had extra time.
Was given a good level of responsibltiy from day one. Alot of the work I did was for the bussmann group as a whole where I was responsible for co-ordinating the sites to comeplete large tasks. As well as submitting data to senior management. Not a great deal of project work but that is the nature of finance.
Formal training, on the job training and monthly reviews really helped with effective self refleciton enabling me to continously improve. Didn't realise how much I would get out of the year in terms of personality development! As for technical skills, the placement enabled me to become profecient in useful areas such as Excel and SAP accounting programme which will both really benefit my degree and future career.
The Company
Loved the atomosphere in my office. All on the same level in terms of humour and all worked well together. Everyone had overlapping knowledge and were all willing to help eachother.
Monthly reviews were extremley useful to development. The placement training was again good for personal development and offered relevant technical skills. For example the Excel training was particularly useful to me. Team building exercises were fun and you were made to think in ways you wouldn't instinctively think. Training sessions offered a good chance to see some of the other sites as well as catch up with all the other interns and see what they were doing.
Not a great deal of personal training was offered and some was less relevant to each individual. But it was good to get training in all areas from the compulsory internship training events. For example project management, not as relevant to finance as excel training but good experience to have. However if you did want to do get training in something there is an online portal called JOE that Eaton employees can go to which offers a wide range of E-learning courses for free.
Company Parties/Events
Good company to work for, offer alot of opportunity to progress - starting with great internship and graduate schemes. Departments within the company worked very well together as well as the different sites. The company systems used were very user friendly and job roles and responsibility exceeded my expectations.
The Culture
There was a good team atmosphere between the interns which was created by the group training sessions, built some lasting relationships here. Even though I got on with people around the business it was great having people the same age as you who you could relate more to. Added to this my site as well as many others which I know of had social events including football which I set up, badminton and going out for meals.
Lived at home with my parents so free! Local area is fairly cheap and close to some big cities.
Pretty good. Lots of small cheap clubs/bars all fairly close together.
Loughborough is a big sports town so there is alot of opportunity.
