The Role
As a first job in a professional environment it was perfect. The rotations through the company allowed me to gain a better understanding of roles offered as well as allowing my own development with a wide variety of tasks to complete.
In both roles I felt highly valued with more senior members of staff coming to me for help. The culture at Rolls-Royce was amazing and everyone was polite, friendly and approachable making it easy to go to others for advice when I was stuck of tasks.
My managers were always there when I needed support and I also had regular meetings to discuss my progress on tasks and my work load
My work load varied a lot depending on what role I was in but whenever I was short of things to do I would offer to help others with their work load or if I was too busy, people would offer to help me with my tasks so overall the balance was pretty good.
The responsibility given varied between the roles I was in. However, I was given a number of opportunities to help lead high profile projects or manage aspects of them on my own.
Whilst the jobs I did do not directly relate to the course I am doing at university, working within a huge organisation has given me an excellent insight into how corporations are run and the impact on the economy they can have - which will give me a better understanding and help me apply theory to 'real life' situations
The Company
The atmosphere in the office (and in general) was always friendly and provided a good environment to work in as well as making a number of friends I will continue to keep in touch with
Apart from a few IT issues when joining the company everything else went smoothly, with instructions given at the start of the year what was required from placement students
Across both roles I was encouraged to undertake a number of training courses (some job specific and others that were general to the company and my development)
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare/Dental
Extremely appealing, I have applied for a graduate position with them
The Culture
Good, I joined the apprentice and graduate association (AGA) so was given a number of opportunities to go out and socialise with people within the organisation
N/A I commuted from home so a different town to where most of the interns were living
I went out a few times with people from work and it was always a good night out (typical city centre)
The AGA sent out newsletters with a number of activities that I could have got involved in, R-R also have a number of organisations I could have joined with activities.
