The Role
At I start it was quite hard to get the hang of things, but I kept learning on a daily basis and enjoying this incredible industry.
The site is one of the most friendly environment I've been in. Everyone is willing to help, from managers to shop floor labor. Everyone seems to be smiling constantly in the company, even if you have a bad day the environment in the site will bring you up!
Both my managers/mentors are constantly there to support me. They have helped me gone through the adaptation process setting goals and objectives with me, worrying about my priorities and helping me to everything they can. They have even attended a meeting with my tutor from back at uni to let him know my process.
As I am in the operations side of the business there is always something to do. Apart from my daily tasks I have specific projects to carry out once I have completed the daily tasks. Furthermore, there is always time to learn and go down to the Bulk strip or Detail strip section to learn more about the engines.
As I work on the operations side, I am sometime assigned with tasks that require quite a lot of responsibility. As an example, I once had to delegate some priorities in the absence of my manager. This makes me grow more confidence in myself and is helping me develop professionally as well as personally.
On a daily basis there is various things that require different skills. Having to solve a problem on the spot or having to manage my time adequately and adapt to new tasks are helping me develop not only professionally in the industry, but gain skills that will be transferable to my day to day life.
The Company
Everyone is very professional and work very hard on a daily basis, but there is always time for a good laugh. They will cheer you up if they see you down and there is always time for a few jokes.
My university is helping me a lot during my year in industry, providing constant contact with staff and a personal tutor. In the company my managers help me and guide me through my objectives and goals and it is proving to be very organised, constantly keeping track of the progress of my projects.
We have been provided with various training course, going from Health and Safety to Six Sigma. As well as this, we have access to manuals and processes that the engines go through, and a whole week seen to what engine was stripped and I was able to ask any questions I had to the workers.

I know form past employees that there is loads of graduates opportunities and they seek for future talents.
The Culture
There is a great social life among the interns as we are so many and from so many different backgrounds. This makes this year even better as you don't feel alone because there is always something going. From volunteering to pub golfs.
Coming from a university in London, Wales is very cheap specially rent. This is great as it gives me an opportunity to save money for traveling or any leisure activities I couldn't do before.
Where the site is located there are not many nightclubs or social places to go, but as most of the interns live in the city centre or in Cardiff Bay there is always plenty going on as it is a student city.
As GE is such a big company they have lots of projects that we can get involved in. From sports day to challenges to volunteering and even choir! I am currently part of the Woman society and help some children out in maths in local schools.
