The Role
Amazing! I highly recommend moving away to complete the vacation programme as it gives you so much independence too.
Everyone was really friendly and really fun to be around (despite what you may hear about accountants)! All interns were invited and welcomed to join in any after work activities.
I had regular meetings to ensure I was comfortable and being treated well as well as getting the most from my experience.
I was extremely busy most days but it was great to be occupied and valued by colleagues and clients.
I was given loads of responsibility but don't let this put you off as there was always someone close who was more than happy to help with questions or problems.
I learned how to do many things from electronic audit to developing client relationships which I will carry with me throughout my life.
The Company
Everyone was very professional in the office but that doesn't mean that it was a strict and unfriendly atmosphere.
It was very well organised from the induction through to the final meeting with my Councillor. The only problem I would raise is the time that it has taken to arrange partner interviews at the end of the placement.
KPMG invested tonnes of time in training and developing as they hope that we will be the future employees of their company which means that it is in their best interest to spend time on us.
Flexi Time
National Travel
I am still awaiting my partner interview but am very hopeful for a job with them in the future. I would be very happy and extremely grateful but even if I don't it was still an invaluable experience!
The Culture
I spent a great deal of time with my fellow interns and with colleagues within the company, everyone was really friendly.
As I moved away and the vacation programme only lasted 8 weeks, this increased the cost of living but didn't dishearten me or ruin my experience in the slightest.
I loved Cardiff!
There was always something going on and there wasn't a weekend where I didn't have plans of some sort.
