The Role
Challenging, enjoyable work. Intel hires over 40 interns each year and its nice to be part of a wider group of people from different backgrounds - it also means you quickly learn about different parts of the business as we all work for different business groups. The company provides benefits which are too long to list here.
I work in a small team (IS engineering) and we are treated as equal members with responsibility for maintaining and developing our own applications.
While we are expected to be resourceful and solve problems on our own we received great support from the full time members of staff, especially in the first few months of the internship.
Every day is different with a mix of fixing issues, improving existing tools and working with business stakeholders to understand their problems and develop new solutions.
A lot including complete autonomy over day to day work.
The mandatory training was somewhat useful, however the skills (both software development and project management) I developed on the job are invaluable and will continue to benefit me both in my final year at Uni and my future career.
The Company
We have mini golf in our cube...
Really well. We join as blue badge (full time) members of staff and integrate as normal employees. They also have a mailing list for interns so that we can easily organize events and encourage us to form committees to organize activities and events.
In my team there wasn't funding to do external courses, I have however done several internal courses that are relevant to my job. There are also opportunities to do online training but I haven't taken advantage of these.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Its too early to say at this stage. But I would Like to come back.

Swindon is a very inexpensive place to live. Rent is between £200 and £350 depending on the location / size.
Old Town has some nice pubs, New Town has a few clubs and is a good night out with friends.
Haven't looked but heard there a lot.
