The Role
I have had several internships in the past, non of which compares to PwC. The level of responsibility given as an intern is great, you are really valued as part of the team.
The team were great at making you feel valued. As colleagues were young, you can really relate and make jokes whilst being professional. I really enjoyed networking within PwC and met many new faces.
Within PwC you are given 'Buddies', an 'In-charge' and a 'People Manager'. With this great structure, you always have somebody to go to. For informal advice, you have your buddies who were extremely helpful. For technical support, each team has an in-charge. For general placement queries, the people manager proved a great help.
I prefer being busy as it helps time go by faster. At PwC, I was provided with the perfect balance of work. When I finished the tasks allocated, the team was more than happy to coach me on new tasks to help develop my understanding.
The level of responsibility given was great, I really felt valued. I was interacting with the clients and requesting information from day 1. The team were great at providing feedback to develop my client interaction skills.
As I study Aerospace Engineering, the skills I developed will not greatly benefit my degree. Although beyond my degree, I believe the hands on experience I gained during my placement will prove beneficial to ensure key theories are fully understood.
The Company
The atmosphere was great, we were working extremely hard yet there was a level of banter in the office making work enjoyable.
The placement was generally very well organised. I was working on 2 clients in the 6 weeks summer internship.
The company invest heavily on personal training and development. There are many e-training modules available. We were also given a 1-weeek induction course which proved pivotal in developing the core foundations required to successfully complete the placement.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
By being enthusiastic and working hard as part of a team, I was able to successfully gain a graduate offer.
The Culture
The social scene amongst interns was absolutely great. We (St Albans) organised nights out with interns in More London and Embankment Place. The social scene with colleagues was also great. We had 3 events over the 6 weeks internship.
The cost of living in St Albans was surprisingly high. Socialising was very cheap as it was mostly subsidised or fully paid for.
We didnt spend much time in St Albans. We were very close to Central London where we met with other interns.
By being proactive, there were many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work. I was in charge of organising football for 2 weeks and fellow interns organised several social events outside of work.
