The Role
This placement year has been everything I wanted it to be when I set out to find a role in operations. So much of what I have done I can relate directly to my operations module and the real world experience will definately serve me well in my final year. I enjoyed the responsibility I was given right from day one, and appriciated the fact I was treated like any other employee with rather than 'an intern'.
Like I said I was given proper responsibility from day one I became part of a team, I played an integral part and felt valued and respected by my collegues.
Upon starting I think there was a definitive lack of training given to me, after a while I became part of a team which helped out a lot and allowed me to learn off everyone else. The new intern replacing me will go directly into the team which is certainly better. Generally though help was always on hand and there was an array of collegues who always had time to lend a helping hand.
You get in what you put out, if you continue to work and prove yourself you will be given more and more work. I was always very busy, at one point I had slightly too much work and I was struggling to get it all done in work hours. This was quickly noticed by my manager who intervened and made sure I had a more managble load.
I never expected to have the level of responsibiliy I was given, even from day one I was taken back by the responsibility that I was entrusted with and this only grew over the year.
Recently I flicked through my notes from lecture slides in years 1 and 2, I was very surprised with how much of what I covered in lectures was now part of my daily role in work. Capacity planning, forecasting, inventory management all were large topics covered in uni and all played a huge role in my daily job.
The Company
The general atmosphere is good, I work in a very large office so its fairly lively. Its also quite relaxed.
The placement was organised very well, all the interns from all the sites meet up once a month for a training day which means staying away in a hotel and getting to know everyone. I really enjoyed these and it really gave the placement scheme structure. We also had monthly reviews with our manager on site and the graduate programme leader where we can iron out any issues or worries.
I feel as though the company has held nothing back this year, we have had numerous training sessions held by third party companies to teach us everything from excel skills to personal development and life skills. Eaton is a company that is very willing to invest heavily in interns and graduates.

I would be happy to return to Eaton after my final year.
The Culture
As I said before the monthly training sessions allowed us to meet with the other interns from different sites and go for a meal and drinks etc. I would also advise living with the interns from your site if you get the opporunity to.
Doncaster is as cheap as it gets, 3 of us shared a really nice fairly new house for around 250 a month each.
Going to uni in nottingham you get accustomed to a great night life which Doncaster cannot contend with, however you are very close to sheffield and less then an hour from leeds which is more like it.
I played football with work once a week and enjoyed the social aspect.
