The Role
It was a great year in terms of experience; some of the tasks were a bit repetitive but served a valid purpose within the business. I was working on real-life projects with the vice presidents of the company and directly reporting into them on a daily basis.
I did not feel like an intern, I was made to feel like a full-time employee and was often completing work similar to that of senior personnel. I was shown the same level of respect by all of those around me.
I had the opportunity to discuss my development with my line-manager on a monthly basis and with the HR team every quarter. I was also provided with a "buddy" throughout the year.
At times I was extremely busy, but it was an aspect which I liked, I can honestly say I was never bored during the day. There was always a task to complete or a project to get involved in.
I was given a large level of responsibility and had ownership over a range of tasks and reports. I was directly responsible for a variety of key performance indicators within the business and continued to take on additional responsibility throughout the year.
The skills learnt here will last a life time and stay with me throughout the duration of my life; I was able to refine a broad range of analytical skills, interpersonal skills and technical skills.
The Company
Small team here in the office ranged from around 8-20 on a normal day, a lot of the people based here travelled for work purposes, so it was somewhat of a quiet atmosphere.
Very well organized, most days had a clear structure with set of deadlines. All communication was very efficient and effective. There were clear expectations set at the beginning of the year and this was continually reinforced throughout the year.
Attended mutiple training courses on various topics throughout the year which were focused on devloping a variety of skills.
Huge organization, with many different sectors all with many functional areas.
The Culture
Good balance between a professional environment and social environment
Very expensive area, seems as though the area if for successful professionals
Long list of resteraunts and pubs to go to, not many bars or clubs
Majority of the people based here commute from far and have families to go home to.
