The Role
I loved my internship at Hewlett Packard. It went above and beyond any expectations I had of a placement year.
My colleagues were extremely welcoming and understanding. They were fully supportive of everything I did.
My manager supported me throughout my placement at HP. He is also still supporting me now with graduate applications.
I was always very busy on a day-to-day basis. I would sometimes work late and on weekend to get the work done.
I had my own marketing campaigns and was given much more responsibility than other interns who previously did my role.
I can honestly say that I learnt more at my time at HP than I have done during my whole education.
The Company
The office atmosphere was great, we had cake sales and charity events monthly. However, the office was quite a serious place where deadlines had to be met.
The internship was set up well, however the application and hiring process was quite organised as each department is in charge of recruiting. This year the hiring process was quite stressful.
My manager provided me with most of my personal training and development. I can't say that HP specifically invested in me.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Future graduate positions are appealing, however there are no marketing roles on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Lots of social events. Climbed 3 peaks, raised £28,000 for charity, monthly social nights out, trips to london etc.
Reasonable. however I am from Leeds and up north is much cheaper than the south!
Nightlife in reading is average.
Not that many outside of work. Mostly intern social and charity society activities!
