The Role
I feel like I really landed on my feet at Telefonica. Although the roll was something that I had not previously been interested in, I was given a large amount of responsibility straight away which was brilliant. Everyone in the company is welcoming and more than helpful, so even though you might get thrown in the deep end you will be able to find a number of people who can help you.
I didn't meet a single person at Telefonica who was not willing to help me. Everyone was very friendly and I felt part of a team very quickly which allowed me to work a lot better and get more out of my placement.
My manager was very approachable and was always willing to help me. We had a meeting weekly to catch up on everything and this was the chance we had to either discuss any problems I was having or to discuss new projects I was involved in.
There were some days where I was so busy I could not stop and others where I found myself not doing anything. As the time went on however I realised there was always something that I could be doing if I was not working to meet deadlines. Part of my job was to support my colleagues digitally so there was some waiting around until I was needed, but other projects I had going on could always be worked on and this was something I realised quite quickly.
I was 'thrown in the deep-end' by being given a large project for new starters after 2 months of being in the business. It was hard work but always exciting and gave me the change to express my ideas being a digital native within the company.
I think the skills I have learnt will benefit me for the rest of my studies and career. They are transferable skills and I know I will use them in every day situations.
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed - flexible working and hot decking meant I was not sat with the same people every day which provided great opportunities to network. The office is amazing and fun to work in.
The placement was very well set up. There was always someone you could talk to if you had a problem and I would recommend the process to anyone.
Being involved with the Leadership and Development team I had a large amount of investment into my placement at Telefonica. Not only was I going on courses to develop myself as an intern, but I was able to go on emerging leader courses and coaching programmes which provided me with tools I could use for future employment.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
They provide a brilliant Graduate scheme which I will definitely be applying to after my final year of uni also I accepted the job.
The Culture
I was invited to a Facebook group as soon as I accepted the job which allowed people to sort out shared housing and events which would allow all the interns to get to know one another.
I lived at home which was half an hours drive away from the office so for me it was free! There are lots of places around to go out which were relatively cheap and provided a good night out!
There were plenty of places to visit for a night out, being only a 30 minute train journey from London there are plenty of options to go out.
There are always opportunities to get involved with placement students outside of work.
