The Role
Great company to work for, I achieved more than I ever expected during my year. Lots of support and development.
BAE systems very much consider each employee as part of a bigger family, my ideas were often taken on board and saw a lot them implemented into the business.
I received mentor-ship from leaders around the business including the director of engineering.
You are as busy as you want to be, there is a considerable amount of work to be involved in.
I was given the opportunity to lead an employee network and saw myself representing the business corporately. I also had time bound responsibilities to produce technical contracts.
The skills gained from this placement are invaluable. I have learnt how industry engineering design processes work . I have also seen many different areas of engineering , this has assisted me in choosing focussed modules for my masters degree that i feel will benifit me in the future.
The Company
Very relaxed office atmosphere!
My placement was very structured and I saw myself experiencing 4 different departments.
BAE invested a considerable amount in my development, including a week long leadership training course.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I have already been offered a place on the graduate development framework next year! They are looking to recruit engineering talent with future projects soon to start, great prospects for employment.
The Culture
Barrow doesnt have the best nightlife but there is a strong graduate/intern community. Never found myself bored!
Barrow is fairly cheap to live in, depends how fancy you want your accommodation.
If you are used to the city, barrow isnt the best for nightlife. Mainly pubs and bars!
I was involved in many additional stretched assignments outside of work which helped my development.
