The Role
The only aspect which made it that little bit harder for me was the fact that I could not be placed more locally to my home, so accommodation was difficult and I moved around a lot. The work was challenging as I did not have a background in accountancy whatsoever, but support was given throughout which was much appreciated.
I felt very valued by all of my colleagues - I was given thorough and patient help when necessary from those with more knowledge than I had, and people always thanked me for my help and were generally friendly and a joy to work with.
I was given constant help and support from my team manager, as well as other members of my team. Prior to taking on an away audit I of course did not receive any of the confirmation emails, as my company account and email had not been set up, so it may have been a good idea to email my personal address until I could read work emails. Apart from this, I was given constant guidance and thanks to this was able to benefit from the wealth of experience surrounding me.
I was very busy, especially on away jobs, but was given help or explanation when I requested it, and planned my time wisely throughout the day in order to always make deadlines and not fall behind.
I was given a lot of responsibility right from the start when I arrived on an away job - I was in charge of cash and PPE. This seemed daunting at first but was the best way to learn and meant that I built confidence quickly.
All of the skills I acquired I feel sure will help me in the future. I am more confident in approaching new tasks, have faith in my ability to learn quickly and build relationships within a team.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and positive, while maintaining a good work and ethical atmosphere.
The placement was very well organised indeed, providing buddies, personal target-setting, meetings to discuss our progress and planned dates for the diary well in advance.
The company invested a lot in each of the people on the placement. We were given endless support from staff, which took up their valuable time. We were also educated for three days and entertained so that we could sample a bit of the friendly, sociable atmosphere that the company encapsulates.

Although I have decided for now not to pursue a career with the company, the people itself were very welcoming, the salary was generous and the opportunities were incredible.
The Culture
Yes, social events were organised on several occasions during my placement, giving me the chance to meet other interns as well as current employees.
Accommodation was more expensive in general, particularly as I could not commute from home or the property that I was currently renting. Socialising was not cheap but was reasonable, depending on what location one chose.
There were plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs to keep everyone happy!
I think it is hard to get involved in a short and limited space of time, but I am aware of plenty of sporting and social clubs that were available to all employees.
