About You
I very much enjoyed my vacation scheme at Stephenson Harwood. The lawyers here are more respectful and engaging that at other firms and the placement was well structured and ran smoothly.
I was given tasks where I was actually able to take some of the load off of the trainees and associates. Although this doesn't mean the tasks were particularly sophisticated, it was always appreciated and I didn't feel like I was a burden being there.
The trainee buddys were great. They were really helpful and friendly, associates were also willing to help you help them. A good deal.
It's hugely important in the legal sector to understand the career you think you want to embark on. Gaining insight into law firm dynamics is intergral to this and the firm culture permitted that.
The Company
Good amount of practice area talks, social events and the assessment centre in the middle of week two.
People had realistic expectations and were generally unitimidating.
Not realistic over such a short period, but I did learn new skills simply by learning on the job.
Everyone was more than willing to talk about life as trainee there.
Greatly, you can't get a feel for culture without experiencing it and meeting the people.
Everything Else
A fair estimate of additional costs in London.
Mainly with trainees but I also attended a client event where senior members of that practice group were available to speak to.
Drinks and table football with the trainee buddys.
There was a daily newsletter with info included.
Approachable firm to begin gaining legal experience with or if you are looking for a TC with a firm which sees you as a potential member of the team.
