The Role
I found the job interesting and the people I worked with were very supportive.
I felt valued by my colleagues even though they were more experienced.
My manager was very supportive and understood where I might need help e.g. in preparing my final presentation.
There were days when I was very busy but in general the pace was good and I was rarely bored.
I was given a considerable amount of responsibility to do things for myself.
Extremely valuable skills developed, particularly regarding interacting with others and how to get the best out of people.
The Company
The open plan office encourages everyone to be friendly and talk to one another.
Well organised in general, although as I was in a different location some of the organisational aspects didn't quite get through to me.
Reviewed my performance regularly to ensure I was on the right track. Different people provided me with informal training of how to do things I needed to know.
Company Car
I would feel very happy working for Centrica due to the amount of support I have received from my collegues and from hearing of good experiences from those on the grad team.
The Culture
There was a good social scene where most of the students were based and I did have the opportunity to visit the other placement students. However, most of the people on engineering placement were either on their own or with one other person. There was a good social scene with other collegues and I had the opportunity to go out for dinner / drinks with various people on different occasions.
Hull is a surprisingly nice city and relatively cheap to socialise
Being in a city means the nightlife was good.
There were some, for example we went on a trip to the races.
