The Role
I really enjoyed working for Thales. Having people that you could get on with on a friend basis as well as a colleague basis made working at Thales a very enjoyable experience.
I think the team value me as a real employee and a friend rather than an under graduate.
The management team was extremely good. If i needed help I never felt like i couldn't ask someone about my problem. They also tried to let me figure things out for myself instead of just spoon feeding me everything which i valued incredibly as it allowed me to learn the system a bit better.
Every now and again there would be a slow income of work because of the work flow. I'm a person that like to be kept busy and I can say that most of the time i've worked at Thales i've been kept busy.
Obviously the longer i'd been working at thales the more responsibility i had been given. By the end of the placement i was working completely independent on a very big change to the system.
I think i've learnt more in my placement year at Thales than i have at university so far. I thin ki will be able to transfer the skills i've learnt from Thales to my degree when I go back to university.
The Company
In the office there is always some fun going on. Always some talking about football or someone having a laugh. That being said you need to organise yourself properly and get your work done. As well as this Thales have a football team where they play after work on a tuesdays which always helps to bring everyone together.
This placement is set up like any other job. You come in, you learn the basics, then you are given a task to go and complete. This was perfect for me as i just wanted to get my teeth stuck into the work.
Not much training in terms of courses. But like i've said before, if i needed help from any of the members they would take the time to explain the situation rather than just telling me how to fix it.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare/Dental
Lots of training and good starting salary.
The Culture
I didn't really get involved with any of the other placement students but i was always playing football on a tuesday with the full time staff. Also work night outs were always fun and interesting!
I lived in a 2 bed apartment on my own which is why it was more expensive. But getting into manchester cost about £3 so if you ever wanted to go into the centre of manchester it was cheap.
Non existing in the place i lived. But if i wanted to go out clubbing or to a sociable pub then qwe would always go into manchester and go out there.
I didn't really have time to do anything other than work, football, gym and nights out. But i think there are opportunities to join clubs in cheadle
