The Role
I thouroughly enjoyed all aspects of this placement, and would strongly recommend this company to anyone.
I was involved in all appropriate pieces of work, and colleagues from outside the finance world often came to me for finance advice.
Brilliant support network by all management. The environent allows you to ask questions, no matter how simple they might be, which speeds up the learning process.
Always oppourtunities to get involved in new work alongside the normal routines.
From day 1, I was responsible for all the work I produced. Over the year, I held majority of responsibility around capital expenditure, and had the oppourtunity in the second half the year to increase this even further with new pieces of work.
This placement provided me with new skills directly associated with working in a professional environment, whilst at the same time developing the underlying skills I already had. It provided me with oppourtunities to organise, present, direct etc. whilst also allowing me to put theory from University, into practice.
The Company
Good. The office is busy, and everyone has work to do, however they make sure they have a bit of a laugh whilst they do so.
Very well. The IP placement falls within the Finance Leadership Development Programme (FLDP). This is a dedicated team designed to guide graduates through the start of their careers, however they also look after new IP's. They provide lots of support, and oppourtunities for personal and professional development. The work placement itself is to cover a real role. The work provided is crucial to the running of the finance team and all training is on the job.
Invested a good amount. They are investing in you from the very beginning, as the whole aim of the IP scheme is prepare you for graduate careers.

The Culture
I was the only placement student at this particular site.
Low cost of living, if you know the right areas.
Newcastle nightlife is brilliant, and certainly lives up to the reputation!
Not many chances to get involved in work related activities, however Newcastle offers a huge range of potential activities to get involved in.
