The Role
Had a great year at NI, it was really good fun and rewarding work. As well as the day to day support job I was given the chance to work on creative projects independently and as part of a group which were great fun.
It's a very friendly working environment as it's quite a small office, I got to know everyone in the department quickly. The average age is in the 20's so it was nice to work with people around my age.
Support was fantastic, was given extensive training at the start and constant support and guidance to make the most of the year from both my team leader and manager. There was always someone to ask if I was unsure of anything.
Workload depends on customers so can be variable, but was never overwhelming. Not a high pressure working environment (in the AE department) so had plenty of time to chat to colleagues and work on projects.
The customer support side of job was the same as the graduates working there so it was nice to be treated equally. Got the chance to teach customer education courses and present projects to customers both in the office and out so was given a lot of responsibility. You're also given freedom to use available hardware and software as you need, the computers and internet aren't locked down at all.
I now have a lot of experience in NI technology which is used quite extensively in engineering which will directly benefit me moving in to my final year, also had to use my degree knowledge in practice which was good experience. Was given a lot of internal training on things such as presentation skills so these will be helpful also.
The Company
Fun, relaxed atmosphere and never too serious, everyone's around the same age so it was always a good laugh.
Everything was planned out as part of the Engineering Leadership Programme, it felt like interns weren't just an afterthought but a big focus for the company
I had extensive initial training and then regular internal training after that. Also some additional training in things like presentation skills and the opportunity to get professionally certified in LabVIEW.

Enjoyable job and a great place to work, but the company is heavily sales focused and my impression is that it may be hard to progress without moving to sales. Great job to develop skills in NI products that are in high demand with other companies.
The Culture
Plenty of chance to socialise with colleagues outside of works, we went to regular events such as a weekly pub quiz and socialised on the weekends often.
Newbury is quite expensive, rent costs were high and nights out could also cost a lot depending on where you went.
A reasonable selection of pubs, some of them quite good. Not much in the way of clubs.
There were some events held by the company and activities organised by workers, these were always good fun.
