    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Found it to be really enjoyable, great variability in the work and projects that I was able to get involved with, given the opportunity to manage my own project and then to also with experienced professionals on larger goals

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • People are very willing to get the students involved in just about all aspects of the work, from the important industrial engineering tasks to overall standard industrial knowledge (working with other departments to develop a better end result etc.) Opportunity to get involved with social events is also very frequent...

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Monthly meetings were scheduled with the engineering manager to discuss current workloads and how it can be improved to best suit your own desired work content, any general issues could also be brought up for discussion. Manager was also readily available to provide extra support at all times.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Daily tasks were assigned which could be generally covered in good time then project works etc. could be managed to suit the current work load. If I found my work load was whittling down, this would easily be solved by discussing other on going works and being assigned certain individual actions etc. If the workload did become too much to handle this again could be discussed appropriatly and resources would be given to help.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • When starting my placement I initally assumed sole responsibility would be difficulty to gain due the 'student' status, this was not really the case. Trust was put with the placement students to complete important work and provide answers to on going issues. I was able to be a site lead for ensuring that a new electronic management system for engineering was instroduced (involved testing of the system, training, communicating any current issues globally through conference calling weekly).

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • many of the skills gained from my placement are important for working in industry. I recieved the opportunity to work in specially controlled environments (Aseptic production etc.) from this I gained the knowledge of what to cover when completing any engineering taks. I was also able to work with many other departments (Quality control, microbiology etc.), from this I learned how different skilled departments can come together to give an overall greater view on an issue or project.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Eeveryone was more than comfortable with each other and more then willing to get involved in conversations about work or social events. Made working in the office enjoyable and easy.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Tasks were pre-set for when I turned up to start, from there the engineering manager would speak to other members of the site and discuss what involvment I could have, good amount of access was able to gained to ensure that work could be completed well.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to sent to other sites to gained extra training on systems. Training was constant and ranged from microbiology training to important engineering tasks. Extra training could be easily requested.
