About You
A fantastic first experience on a vacation scheme! I thoroughly enjoyed the work, socials and networking with likeminded people.
I was given some quite complicated high responsibility tasks especially in my Corporate seat, and felt like I was treated as a trainee. Everyone was truly very supportive and friendly during my time here.
I was appointed a trainee buddy during my time in my vac scheme who guided me through the process and helped me to settle in well. During my time in my two seats, trainees, associates and even partners were willing to support me and take the time out to explain the work to ensure I fully understood the task at hand.
I learnt a lot of commercial knowledge and acumen particularly in my Corporate seat. The knowledge I gained from this is invaluable and will no doubt help me in future vac scheme/job interviews. On a more general level, the seats also helped me to enhance my researching abilities, my ability to work in a team and independently.
The Company
Very well structured, with a good mix of working in our respective departments, talks and presentations, and socials.
The atmosphere was very very welcoming and pleasant. The people were very approachable and willing to answer any questions.
There was not much organised in terms of our personal training development although we did attend a talk on the training development system at Mayer Brown were we to successfully obtain a TC.
My time on my placement was a great way to reflect the good balance between work and socials.
The good mix of work and socials showed me that although it can be an intense job at times, it can also be a very rewarding one.
Everything Else
The work was a great way to see what it would be like as an every day trainee, and the variety of tasks I would be asked to undertake.
Plenty of opportunities for networking, including post work drinks and a trip to Paris. Employees were also willing to have a chat with us regarding their work, past experiences etc at other times in the day.
The social events were enjoyable, giving us all a great insight into the pleasant culture of Mayer Brown in a more relaxed setting.
Although there were several social networking opportunities, there was not much information given on what employees can get involved in outside of work (expect for potential client and international secondments at places such as Hong Kong)
No doubt that I would recommend the Mayer Brown vacation scheme! It is a pleasant, well balanced firm and an enjoyable place to work.
