About You
It was very well organised and varied in that I got to experience and hear about what its like to work in the oilfield services industry but also get some hands on experience but shadowing people that work in the company.
Due to the fact that is was a small group of people taking part (about 15 of us), it was very interactive and the staff were very friendly. After long days of hard work, we were treated to nice casual dinners where we got to hear more about the organisation and what its like but also talk about ourselves and our interests.
It was made very clear from the beginning that Schlumberger was a very diverse company and they really put at ease my concerns about being an ethnic minority as well as a woman working in the male dominated field of engineering
The one activity that we did that I fel benefitted me most was a group case study. This was where we had to solve a problem in a limited amount of time. This helped me to learn how to work under pressure and deliver a solution in the time that your client needs it to be delivered. I feel like this will be valuable both when I do group projects back at University, but also when I work on team projects outside in the work place.
The Company
It was well organised and had a good balance of talks, group work, job shadowing and well as relaxation time.
It was a very friendly atmosphere and as such, it felt comfortable to contribute to discussions as well as ask questions. The staff would always smile at you and make you feel welcome.
They got a lot of people involved in the program, and it was very nice to see employees come from their branches all across the country to showcase what they did in their respective branches. I felt like a lot of time and effort was put in by so many people in the company in order to make us get the most out of the programme
It was made very clear the type of roles available in the company, and we had Q&A sessions with employees of the company to find out how they felt about working there, and this was very insightful. We also got a detailed breakdown of the type of training you would undergo as part of a graduate scheme. It was all very informative
I learned that strongly believes in diversity and getting people from all walks of life to work together and generate amazing ideas. I also learned that the company cares about the growth of its employees by allowing them to work in different areas within the company, and that you're not glued to a single role while working there.
Everything Else
All travel expenses, hotel stay, and food was paid for by the comapny
We had the chance of meeting the managers of the company and having a chat with them over dinner.
Casual and informative
I didn't really get a chance to hear very much about the life of the employees outside of their work.
Its a great opportunity to learn about the company, meet many other students with similar interests, network, as well as develop both soft and technical skills through the range of activities that are organised throughout the programme.
