The Role
Projects were very well-managed, providing for a stress-free and enjoyable experience.
Colleagues treated me kindly and with respect.
Support and guidance were provided at reviews, as well as on demand.
Tasks and targets were set such that the work was enjoyable and not stressful.
I was given the right level of autonomy in completing the tasks I chose or was assigned. I worked on crucial parts of the product, and it was included in the released product.
The skills that I developed during the placement, particularly those in teamwork and communication, but also the technical skills, are transferable, and are relevant to my studies and my career plans.
The Company
The happenings in the office were quite entertaining, but not so much that it distracted from the work.
Being at a smaller branch office rather than at the headquarters made the induction process slightly confusing, but the remainder of the placement was well-organised.
Reviews were carried out to aid development.
Company Parties/Events
Fairly good prospects, though intake is not expected to be large.
The Culture
There were some office events and functions.
Living costs were not very high, but it was not an urban area suitable for socialisation. However, a nearby university town offered better socialising opportunities for a higher living cost.
Nightlife was negligible in the area, but was very good in the nearby university town.
Opportunities to run STEMNet code clubs existed, but they were difficult to fit into my schedule, given the work hours and the school hours.
