The Role
I really enjoyed my internship - the company is great to work for and the people you work with are friendly and welcoming. I didn't feel like the new joiner at all.
People really tried to include me as much as possible and get me involved with various types of work and were always really grateful and thankful for the work I had done.
I was given some support from my line manager. The new graduates were very supportive and always willing to answer any questions I had, no matter how "stupid" they were.
I was generally very busy, with around 3 pieces of work at a time. This was good for developing my time management skills.
I was given some responsibility doing calcs and checking other people's work.
I've definitely learnt a lot about the pension industry which will be greatly helpful in the start of my career next year. I've also gained skills in communication with others, working in a team, time management and confidence in presenting which will be helpful for my degree studies and life in general.
The Company
Everyone was friendly and relaxed which really helped me to settle in. I never felt like I was being judged.
The Graduate Recruitment side was very organised with two induction days and a final presentation day. I didn't have a structure as such with my work but I'm not sure it was needed.
People spent a lot of time with me going through all the work I was doing. I would've liked more software training as I was new to it all, however I know there isn't much time to do that in a 6 week internship.
Financial Bonus
I would love to work for this company. It's one of the best companies (if not the best) in the pensions industry and seems to have great career progression opportunities.
The Culture
I was the only intern in my office which was the only negative of my experience really. However, this did give me a really good opportunity for everyone in the office to get to know me better.
I was living in a city centre but this isn't too expensive if you watch what you're spending. Tesco is the same price as anywhere else and there are always places you can find that do cheap drinks if you spend a bit of time on Google!
City centre nightlife is great.
There were some after works drinks which were a great opportunity to get to know the people in the office in a more relaxed environment.
