The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed every day of my placement year from day one.
My team and I got on incredibly well. We had a lot of laughs among the hard work and it was like very supportive and caring family.
I couldn't have asked for a better manager. She was supportive, looked out for my development, encouraged me to try new things, coached me through my areas of improvement and really invested in me. I have left my year feeling inspired by her and we are friends.
The role I was in was a very seasonal role (Recruitment). At times, we have a lot going on and in other times it was fairly quiet but I like the variation.
I was given huge responsibility from the beginning. I was organising and running assessment centres for candidates from all over the world, flying to the UK, within 2 months of joining. I was on planning teams, helped organise and run various events, gave feedback after assessment centres to candidates and much more.
I have come away with some fantastic new skills, built on old skills and discovered what I need to focus on in the future.
The Company
There were social events for all the placement students including a boat party and Christmas ball, there were team meals, charity events, opportunities to get involved in lots of things. The atmosphere at the desks was also great. It helped to make sure I worked hard but we also had some fun along the way!
Sometimes there were times when I wasn't 100% sure what I was meant to be doing but it meant I could use my initiative to find something to get involved in.
My manager coached me and invested in me. There were lots of online courses I could enroll in, there's a two day induction within your first few months to teach you about the company and I was always encouraged to get involved in any development sessions that I could.

I want to go back when I graduate but there are no guarantees with the company, though they do have an option to register your interest in a direct entry role or grad scheme before you leave.
The Culture
There was an industrial placement student organisation run from within by students for students. We had our own internal website, we held talks about grad schemes, had business skills development workshops and many social events. It also helped us to meet people from sites across business units and sites.
It was fairly expensive as you had to go to central London but you get used to and expect it.
It was great as you had central London not very far away with easy night bus routes home. A lot of fun was had!
Lots of various things across the year.
