The Role
Very rewarding, would recommend to anyone
From day one I felt my opinion mattered just as much as everyone else. All down to my amazing boss.
My Boss provided me with great support. She was always there is I needed help. My work colleagues around me were very supportive and I was also given a tutor. So yes, I was given more than enough guidance.
To begin with, not to busy, although this was no fault of anyone, more of a case as they didn't know how much work to give me and didn't know how much I could do. When the running got a bit smoother, I always had ample to do with recurring tasks and ad hoc projects etc
A whole lot more than I thought I was! I was the sole provider of crucial reporting to our client (Rolls-Royce), and involved in numerous other projects/reporting that were shared with the client
Will answer this question the other way around. Nothing I had learned in my 2 years of my degree so far have been useful in a 'real life role'. The skills and everything else I learned from my year here really opened my eyes into what working life is exactly like.
The Company
Great team! Good bunch of gals and guys. Most of them liked a little bit of a laugh!
Bit tricky this one, I was the first intern at HP derby site ever. So I always expected the organization to be a bit work in progress to begin with. Overall, very well.
HP provides masses amounts of training you can do. In terms of development...not really relevant to an internship position as you leave the company so can't plan to 'develop' over the years.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
50/50. Would love to work for HP. Although with all the work-force reductions and the 'politics' involved, it has put me off a bit. Also, comparing salaries from IBM,microsoft, google,RR etc,, HP's is the lowest.
The Culture
Was the only intern. So extremely poor in that sense.
About average. Derby as a place is rubbish (coming from someone who is used to a big city)
Worst nightlife I've been too. Not cheap and the clubs are s**t. Eye candy very poor, general conversation with locals/students was dreadful, they have no 'banter'. Would not recommend. My housemates would just have house parties instead, much cheaper and maybe a pretty girl as well!
From what HP offered.. No. There are thousands of things to do if you work in the Bracknell offce, but not much in the Derby office. I played footy every week, but organized that myself.
