The Role
I really enjoyed my placement with Telefonica. I was able to work on a wide variety of projects and picked up invaluable experience that will definitely help me finish off university and start my working career.
Everybody in my team was really friendly and showed genuine interest in getting to know you professionally as well as personally.
I was guided through each project that i was given as well as getting extra support if i needed it.
I was always busy doing tasks and working on projects. There were periods that were quiet but I think that is to be expected in most businesses.
The longer I worked there the more tasks I was given. I was trusted with lots of projects to work independently and represent the team.
I think working for a company like Telefonica gives you skills for life that you may not necessarily learn at university. The experience is really hands on, diverse and gives you the opportunity to work with such a wide range of different people throughout the business.
The Company
Very relaxed, informal and friendly.
It was quite well set up as we had equipment sorted very quickly, some of the internal systems took a while to be set up so there were a few hitches.
I had the opportunity to take part in courses to improve my skills in IT and I had opportunities to explore other aspects of the business. Training was done as I went along through trial and error.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I would really like the chance to become an employee in the future as it is a great company to work for.
The Culture
There were quite a few other interns and grads so we were able to live to with each other and go on nights out together.
Rent is quite expensive depending on where you want to live, the office is in Slough which is a less expensive area to live in, Windsor is 10 minutes down the road and London is 20 minutes away which are both relatively expensive.
In Slough there are a couple of pubs but not really any nightlife. Windsor is the closest place for nightlife, it has a couple of pubs, clubs and bars. Reading has a lot of student based clubs and bars and London is also quite close but more difficult to get back from.
With the other interns and grads it was easier to organise social activities.
