The Role
I really enjoyed my year, the work was interesting and allowed me to learn new skills.
I was working with a great team and the work I was doing was to the limit of my knowledge and experience.
I had fantastic support for when I was having trouble with a particular problem, and was helped to create my own solutions rather than shown the correct way.
Sometimes I found that I had little to do but this was rare. There was always things going on and I usually had more than one project at a time.
Although, as expected, I wasn't given a great deal of responsibility, I did design parts to be used in actual products.
I learnt absolutely loads! This has been useful for my degree and applying for grad jobs. One downside of the placement has that due to the structure of the company they weren't able to offer any sponsorship or job offer based on my performance. I'll definitely apply for a job when I leave, but it won't be the only place I apply.
The Company
There was a good atmosphere and plenty of fun experiences.
Good. No complaints really.
I was taught skills useful for work and sent on courses when required.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I did not really get a chance to secure a job with them, because of the structure of the company but I'll definitely apply at the end of my degree.
The Culture
There was a regular night out on Fridays and plenty of graduates of a similar age to me.
It was fairly expensive, at least compared to going out as a student, but then again I was earning a lot more so I was able to afford it.
It was OK, the local town had a limited number of clubs, although you could travel for a better night out.
There was a lot of out of work opportunities. For example I joined the rugby team, played squash, went on community days, joined the gym and went to big charity event days.
