About You
I found it a struggle to find work a lot of the time, but really enjoyed meeting the other vacation schemers and trainees
I think I was just a bit unlucky with my supervisor who was very busy and didn't have much time for me. Furthermore the work I was set was quite basic and I didn't ever receive feedback on it or anything so I didn't know whether it had been good or useful or if I was just being given it to keep me busy.
See above - my supervisor was too busy to really take much notice or offer much support and guidance. My buddy was fantastic though - really helpful.
It's helped me see that law is something I would like to do - the firm organised Focus talks on all the different sectors in which it is involved which meant I could see what went on in other departments to the one I was sitting in.
The Company
They had organised it very well, with lunches with our buddies, and social events, as well as our talks and presentations.
We had some fun social events but there were quite long hours involved and it did get a bit lonely at points as I wasn't sitting too near other vacation schemers
They'd made a real effort with the talks they organised so we got a lot of insight into the firm.
We got an insight into the sort of hours we were expected to work, as well as the more fun, social aspect of the firm. Other vacation schemers got very real life work to do as well so it was definitely a good insight.
I think it helped me understand how the firm works - speaking to trainees and my buddy as well as spending a week immersed in it helped show me this!
Everything Else
We were paid £250 for the week
At social events and at focus talks
The social events were great fun, and the focus talks were interesting.
I couldn't get involved as the spaces were booked up, but some of the scheme got to attend the Pro Bono clinic. I also found out about the sport teams the firm has.
I would recommend it but I would say that it depends a lot on your supervisor and department. IT would also be good to be aware that although they say you work 9.30-5.30, in practice I was there from about 8.30 - 7.
