    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It is a very fast-paced environment which can be stressful at times but the people are very understanding and helpful.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like I was part of the family, my team were really nice to me and made an effort to socialise with me outside of work hours.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • For the most part I was given a lot of support and guidance when I needed it. However, as it is a fast-paced I sometimes felt that by asking for help I was a hindrance to my management team.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was a lot of work to get through on a daily basis as I was assisting a whole department with their administration and other tasks. At the beginning of my placement there were times I had very little to do and other days I felt like I was overloaded. If you are reading this, don't let it put you off - Hays have now created a structured intern/placement programme which looks really great.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, covering for recruitment consultants when they were off. I was in charge of organising events and completing weekly/daily trackers of work rate and other key aspects of the job.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although, recruitment may not be what I want to do in the future, I still considered my time there as very valuable. I learnt a lot of things such as commercial behaviours, structuring of emails, telephone manner. I became more confident and I definitely learnt that I am a people person and perhaps not that much of a sales person.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I can't really speak for other departments but my department was great although we had a good laugh every day we knew when we needed to get our heads down and get on with our work.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although I enjoyed my placement, at the beginning I felt like they didn't really know what to do with me and I had no real structure to my day or a job description as such. However, I know that from 2014 Hays have created a intern/placement programme which has a defined structure so I'm sure any new interns/placement students won't feel the same as I did.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was sent on the same training as the trainee recruitment consultants. Which meant going to London for 4 days and attending training in the massive Hays office based in Cheapside. It was a great experience and I learnt a lot in that short space of time.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • In the Hays office in Glasgow there was only me and one other placement student. We worked in different departments but we spoke and got a long. We would go out with our departments nearly every Friday. Hays has a great social scene very rarely was there a Friday without drinks after work.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was the city centre of Glasgow so there was unlimited options of bars and pubs and there's usually deals on.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow is great for a night out.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As I said before we would go out for drinks at the end of a long week but apart from that there was nothing.
