About You
I did a 2 week Vacation Placement and thoroughly enjoyed the insight it gave me into both a career in commercial law and with Pinsent Masons
I was given real work to complete rather than simply doing the photocopying, I felt value and part of the team.
I got a huge amount of support from my practice area particularly from my trainee buddy who ensured that I understood everything I was asked to do and that I could go to anyone with questions/queries.
It enhanced skills I already had and perhaps highlighted how invaluable such skills actually are.
The Company
Very well structured. We were given a timetable which had all of the events taking place scheduled into it so I knew exactly where I was supposed to be and when.
Great atmosphere. Very friendly office. Obviously everybody was extremely busy but never made you feel unwanted, any question was ok to ask.
The firm gave me responsibilities and plenty of work to do throughout my time there.
The trainees were very forthcoming with what it is actually like to work at Pinsent Masons. I'm not sure how much you'd realise without discussing it with the trainees as 2 weeks is not that long at all!
The placement cemented what I already thought, that for me the firm is very successful, but full of very friendly and apporachable people.
Everything Else
I was paid a generous salary for the two weeks, with my travel to London on the first day reimbursed. I would probably do it again even if I wasn't going to be paid.
Social evenings and office drinks on fridays. Also a lot of employees would introduce themselves to em around the office.
The social events were very fun, we did a pizza making class with drinks and also went to a comedy night. They were well thought out events. However the office drinks were a bit of a let down as only 2 trainees turned up for the first one and they seemed quite annoyed at the lack of effort - this meant the evening was a bit flat and we decided to leave after 1 drink.
Many ways in which employees can get involved outside work, sports etc
A great firm, will go out of their way to help you, make you feel comfortable, and ensure you are meeting your personal objectives. I'd absolutely apply to Pinsent Masons all over again.
