About You
I had a very enjoable experience at CMS, not lease because of the cohesive and collaborative atmosphere and good quantity of work that I was given. There were times when I didn't have sufficient work to keep me busy, but in my limited capacity as a vacation scheme student, that was to be expected.
The overwhleming majority of employees at CMS were incredibly friendly and inclusive, and I quickly felt as if I was part of the firm.
I received an incredible amount of technical advice and support, as well as more general interview advice. Much with the inclusion question, everyone was very friendly and supportive, and it made for a much better overall scheme.
Law in practice just simply isn't academic law, and there should never be any miconceptions about that.
The Company
The scheme was relatively well-structured, and CMS seems to have an air of efficiency that is very appealing.
An exciting buzz and vibe surrounds the office, and certainly made for a more exciting stint at CMS.
As a student who is not obliged to take any offers that might be made, there is little reason why they should invest heavily in me. That said, I was invested in to the extent that knowledge and skills were needed to complete the set work, and to that extent, I am grateful.
I got a very powerful insight into how the firm works on a multitude of levels, and would certainly recommend the scheme to anyone who wanted to get an insight into CMS or law firms more generally (noting that each firm has a different culture).
Working with lawyers and in their offices allowed me to experience, first-hand, the culture and environment of work.
Everything Else
I was paid, although one may struggle to find accommodation at a good enough price to actually make money. I was lucky and did, but if you do apply for this scheme and you don't live in London, book early!
Some, although not many - we had three main socials over the scheme.
As stated, there were three - all of which were fun - although one or two more early on would have been appreciated.
I was introduced to alot of the favourites for social meetings etc outside of work that the firm frequents, and it certainly appeared to have a strong social pesence.
Definitely. Very interesting, useful, and ultimately fun.
