About You
The placement was thoroughly enjoyable with interesting work and great people. I genuinely enjoyed coming to work in the morning, and got an opportunity to interact with all levels of seniority on real client work.
The employees at the firm made me feel welcome and a valued member of the team. Everyone was extremely friendly and I was genuinely suprised about how happy everyone was to spend time helping me and offering me work.
Whenever I needed a hand or something explaining, people were keen to help. Especially when somebody was asking me to do a job I didn't fully understand, everyone was keen to explain the process to me and how it fit into the wider context of the client's demands.
The placement helped develop skills across my life from interpersonal skills to the dreaded commercial awareness. It definitely clarified how a law firm interacts with clients on a commercial basis.
The Company
A comprehensive timetable was provided on the first day, and the one alteration that was made was flagged up well ahead of time. The trainees organising the social evenings let us know in advance what was planned and where we should be.
Everyone on the placement was friendly and we grew closer as the two weeks progressed. There was a little sense of competition, as you might expect, but everything was all in a good spirit!
The firm provided a lot of information about the different practise areas, and gave us a fair bit of training. We were encouraged to set objectives at the start of the placement and this helped focus our training to things we were interested in developing.
Everyone at the firm was open to questions and more than willing to explain what their role was. This, in combination with the social events, gave a good insight into how the firm operated and what a job at PM would be like.
During the insight we were given multiple presentations and lots of advice about the company's culture, and while working it was clear that the culture that was promoted externally was definitely in practice.
Everything Else
There were multiple social events that gave opportunities to get to know the trainees and more senior members of the firm. There was ample opportunity to ask questions to the lawyers and network with them.
Thoroughly enjoyable and well thought out.
The lawyers stressed how many opportunities there were for them, even going as far to say that you could probably spend every night after work doing some form of social event that the firm would organise.
Absolutely, it was a great experience.
