About You
I had a brilliant time at Pinsent Masons, the work was interesting, the staff were friendly, the extra-curricular activites were enjoyable and I learnt alot about having a potential career at the firm.
The work given was of a good intellectual standard and was interesting. As a result of this, I felt like my input and work were both valid and worthwhile.
My trainee buddy was excellent, every task was made clear to me in advance and clarification was available whenever needed. I recieved clear feedback on my tasks everyday.
The skills I will take to my academic studies include an improved sense of time management and the ability to focus constantly rather than in periods. Attention to detail was a real focus of the vacation scheme and something I have noted that I need to improve.
The Company
There were no problems with the structuring of the vacation scheme. Any changes to rooms or speakers was communicated in advance with regards to presentations, and I always had work to complete.
The atmosphere was friendly and open. Naturally some people are keener to talk to vacation students than others but I felt there was always someone who could answer my questions, even if you have to ask various people.
I felt that the tasks given definitely helped me develop the relevant skills in terms of what Pinsent Masons looks for. The company also lays on social events which are a great way to integrate into the firm.
Very much so, the tasks given to me were typical trainee tasks and I was left to manage my own time, much like a trainee. Any questions I had about life at the firm full time, were answered.
I really felt like I gained a better understanding of the culture/working environment but I would say that some departments are very different and so you can really only in depth get an understanding of the culture of a department.
Everything Else
The firm reimbursed initial travel expenses to the London office for the induction but not for day to day travel.
There were various social events and specific lunches with trainee's and partners. The practice presentations also provided access to senior associates and solicitors.
They were really enjoyable and easy to make the most of. Also there were quite a few so if you were unable to attend one, there were plenty more opportunities.
I played netball with a different department which was a great way to socialise and get a feel for what the employees were like outside of the formal office setting.
Absolutely.
