About You
Everyone at the firm was really friendly and made me feel very welcome, including the partners who interviewed me for the training contract. I got a great variety of work and everyone in my department was very willing to take the time to explain the work to me. I got on really well with the other vacation scheme students so this made the experience even more enjoyable, and there were some great socials (bowling and pizza making).
On many of the tasks I did I got an email back from the person I had done the work for thanking me for what I had done, and telling me it was really helpful, so this made me feel that my work was valued.
Every task would be generally explained to me and if I didn't understand it people were always happy to go over it or answer any of my questions.
I really developed my research skills so this will be helpful for my university work. I also learnt some more practical skills which will come in helpful when I'm hopefully a trainee.
The Company
We were given a timetable of the two weeks a while before the start of the placement so I always knew what I would be doing each day. Graduate recruitment were also very good at keeping us informed of what rooms we were in, any timetable changes throughout the week etc.
Everyone in the office was always really cheerful and genuinely seemed happy to come to work. The socials also had a great atmosphere and provided a more relaxed setting to chat to everyone.
At the induction day a large part of the day was training for the vacation scheme and throughout the scheme the employees invest a lot of time into giving you work and explaining it.
It really helped. There is no better way to know whether you're suited to a firm than actually working there.
We had various presentations throughout the two weeks which helped me to understand this. The CR presentation was particularly useful for this.
Everything Else
I was paid for the two weeks and the firm reimbursed expenses for travel to the London office on the first day for those not based at that office.
There were lots of opportunities. We had presentations each morning from employees in all of the different departments so everyday I was meeting someone new.
They were great. We did pizza making and bowling with the trainees and we went to lunch with the partners at a nearby restaurant.
Yes, I heard a lot about the St Basils walk that many of the employees had done with the firm to raise money for charity.
Definitely. It's helped to think about what seats I'd like to do as a trainee and it's confirmed that this is a firm that I would love to work at, everyone made me feel so welcome.
