About You
The scheme provided an invaluable insight into a career at an international law firm. All staff were very approachable and supportive.
I was given a wide variety of work which was used by the fee earners. This ranged from research to correcting documents.
Each student is allocated a trainee buddy for the duration of the scheme. In addition, any issues that were encountered could also be solved by talking to someone else in the department. Graduate recruitment also provided updates on the scheme and assessments throughout the two weeks.
The work that was allocated was usually what a new trainee would do at the beginning of a seat rotation, so it provided a great experience in regard to what to expect as a trainee at Pinsent Masons, and will no doubt help on the LPC.
The Company
A schedule was provided at the beginning of the scheme which was rarely deviated from. There was an excellent balance between working in your allocated practice department and other activities such as practice presentations and organised socials.
The atmosphere was great. I always felt that I could ask anyone a question and as the scheme progressed I was given work from different people in the department which gave me exposure to a variety of legal tasks.
The firm invested a great deal of time and money into the scheme in order to provide students with a realistic experience of what life as a commercial lawyer would be like. In terms of development, in the first week students were required to set objectives with their supervisor about what they want achieve over the duration of the scheme. These were discussed in the second week to see whether you achieved them.
The work I received was what a trainee would do at the beginning of a seat rotation, therefore it provided a good insight into the quality and variety of work that a full time role would provide.
The culture is fantastic.
Everything Else
Each student was paid £500 for the two weeks and reimbursed travel expenses for the induction in London.
There was at least two organised events each week which provided networking opportunities. These ranged from bowling to a partner lunch.
Great. The activities were relaxed and informal which allowed everyone to enjoy them and ask questions.
There is a wide variety of activities that the firm supports ranging from sport to business responsibility programmes.
