The Role
There was always a great deal of work for me to get involved with. I was given my own work, and allowed to assist others with theirs. I was also fortunate enough to go along to some "onsite visits" and attend some meetings at some of the clients' locations.
Right from the beginning, I felt welcomed and valued. Everyone was so helpful and friendly in the office and I never felt like I was bothering them when I asked for help.
Again, everyone was so helpful. I was given a mentor and sat between two managers, who were all really keen to answer any queries or help me with any problems.
I would say that my confidence has improved since the internship and I now have a real interest in tax; which I will nurture whilst writing my dissertation in my final year.
There was a brilliant structure to the scheme, I felt. We attended a two day induction in Solihull, where we were able to meet with all of the other SVS students from across the different offices. Back in the office we were given numerous different jobs and got to work with people from across all of the different tax departments.
There was a great atmosphere across the office and I genuinely did not come across one person who did not appear to love their job.
The Company
In terms of training, I don't suppose there is a great deal that Deloitte could do within such a small time frame. However, I have no obtained a place on the Deloitte Graduate Scheme where I will study towards obtaining a Chartered Accountancy status; funded by Deloitte.
Not only did I feel like a valued member of the team, but I also knew even just after a small few days that I definitely wanted a career at Deloitte.
I originally thought that there'd be a very rigid structure within the firm, however I soon learned that everyone is quite relaxed and open. Before starting, we were advised to really get involved with anything we're invited to and so I was lucky enough to be invited along to 3 staff nights out and 3 meals, during the 3 week internship, as well as invited along to client meetings.

I was paid very well for this scheme, however I can honestly say that it was so enjoyable for me, that I would have done it for free.
The Culture
Always! It's very much a case of you get out of the experience exactly what you put in. If you don't bother to take up invitations to events, then you won't get to network and meet such a wide range of good people.
I was always invited along to networking events, and I cannot stress enough how important it is to attend these events and make an effort. By going along, I've made some great friends and was able to talk to people from different departments - I even managed to get invited along to a client visit just because I met someone from a different department at a networking event.
Deloitte sponsor a scheme called Deloitte Parasport, which I have now become a volunteer for. I am now volunteering for this scheme for a year, until I finish my degree and start my Graduate Scheme. I was also informed of so many sporting activities that Deloitte employees are involved in such as annual coast-to-coast cycling, mixed tennis competitions and football tournaments - all of which I am really keen to get involved with, when I return to Deloitte.
Absolutely.
