The Role
I enjoy my work placement a lot. No day is ever the same and you are constantly meeting new people. Because Telefonica is such a big company there is always the chance to explore different areas in order to get a broad view of the organisation.
Within my team everyone is so welcoming and willing to help you learn and feel at ease. This also extends to the rest of the company where everyone is keen to play a part in your development.
The support structure here is the best you could wish for. First point of call is your line manager within your team who you have closest contact with and they give you your work/projects. There is also an individual who is assigned in each directorate looks after all of the interns, grads and apprentices (talent's). There is also a buddy system to pair you up with someone who has recently been through the same process as you have. Within each team there is also normally another talent who can also help you out.
For the first 3 months I was not very busy as I was still learning about the company and the department. But after that I was very busy on different projects.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility. I knew what I had to deliver at all times and knew the consequences if I wasn't able to do the work in time.
I have been fortunate enough to be exposed to the whole business due to the work my team does. I would definitely say that I was thrown in at the deep end with regards to my learning which I know in the future will benefit me. I have gained a lot of knowledge in all of the major areas which gives me a lot of options when looking at a career post university and with the company.
The Company
A good balance of friendly fun but you also knew when you needed to get down to do the proper work.
From being told I had an interview to an assessment day until my first day at the job it wasn't the most organised due to it being a new set up for the scheme. However, once in the job everything has been run very well.
I am lucky to have a line manager who will invest a lot of time into me so he can give me 1 to 1 sessions whenever I need them and the general consensus is that majority of managers do the same. We were also encouraged to join in on volunteer activities which help out the company whilst developing my skills.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
There is the possibility of getting onto the graduate scheme post university.
The Culture
It is up to you to organise it but everyone is friendly and up for doing something.
It isn't the cheapest because it is down south near London.
Train links are really good, Reading, Windsor and London are all close.
There are always Volunteering opportunities available- Think Big Schools is the main one.
