The Role
Starting in the summer meant starting in the holiday period, so it was a bit slower than I was expecting, although that was good because I needed to bring myself up to speed with the concepts I was working with
Joined in with conversations fairly quickly. Great bunch of people in the P&E dept.
Any issues I had were treated as the highest priority. Great learning environment.
Occasionally it dried up, but I found myself doing a lot in those periods to go through experimental papers on the topic(s) at hand (which was very useful).
I started creating/designing tests for the engines to be running within the first few weeks, and the data handling and presentation for those was left up to me, so I was quite happy doing my own thing which would help the work my colleagues were doing.
Every day more knowledge is crammed in, more skills and more useful work/management techniques. It can be a little exhausting at first but I feel far better for it now.
The Company
Everyone knew everyone else, so if there was a less busy moment, there was almost always someone making people laugh.
I had a few issues with access to the building I was working in (I didn't have security clearance for the first few weeks) but everything else was great.
There are always training events you can go on, and they can be very useful, if you pick appropriate ones!
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I would very much like to think I'll find myself back here in a few years when I graduate!
The Culture
JLR organised a mini-business competition, putting the 12 month under grads in teams to make money, the winning team getting a prize.
Coming from the South, my rent cut almost in half, for a nicer house. Pubs were much cheaper too, and the area is much nicer!
Had to go into the city centre, or Birmingham (10, 40 minute bus journey respectively, if good traffic) and then some great nights out!
The company offers £200/yr (refreshing in October, so you get it twice) to go and learn something, or do something such as a Land Rover experience, or learning to paint etc etc. As well as that, there were loads of social clubs and events!
