The Role
Very enjoyable and varied tasks. Plenty of opportunities to get out of the office and work with the cars
They were all really helpful, friendly, seemed happy to have an intern about the office
approachable when asked questions, usually gave a general outline of what one needed to achieve and let you work on your own unless you were stuck on a problem
Could be a little boring while settling in but was more enjoyable once you got used to the company
A reasonable amount, I got to run part of a measurement project but there was the flexibility to take a back seat if the task required more experience
I learned a lot about the automotive industry as well as got to work with different software and instruments relevant to my course work. Good experience for future job applications
The Company
nice to chat to but quite calm and focused most of the time.
In my department the organisation was great but dealing with the company at large was chaotic, e.g. my access card didn't work for a month so I needed to wait for someone else to get into the building
There were a number of on-line courses which were quite informative but the majority of training came from listening to people in my department
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
International Travel
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I would definitely consider returning, future circumstances permitting. JLR are very encouraging and enthusiastic about interns returning to the company or returning as graduates
The Culture
Really fun, plenty of nights out. really nice people
Pretty inexpensive, the only significant cost was the commute to work as you site was difficult to walk or cycle to from where the majority of the interns were staying. But there was generally car pooling options which made things cheaper
Fun, but not particularly special. everything was within walking distance.
Some, e.g. gym or play sports, but the working day could be quite tiring so it depended on your energy. Great bus and train access to Birmingham Airport, London, etc
